Your Most Valuable Asset is Your Ability to Earn

While an investment portfolio is vital to building wealth, your earning potential is often the foundation that feeds it.

For physicians, attorneys, CPAs, and business owners, future earnings may be worth many times more than the assets already accumulated. Lose the ability to work, and you do not merely lose a paycheck. You lose the capital that was supposed to fund retirement, investments, education, debt reduction, and everything that comes next.

That is why I view disability insurance differently.

Disability insurance is a key risk management tool designed to help protect your financial strategy.

Without adequate income protection, a prudent financial plan may require a large first “emergency bucket” sitting in cash and other low-yield assets. Disability insurance transfers part of that risk to an insurer. That can allow more capital to move into medium- and long-term investment buckets where it has greater growth potential.

This approach may allow a portion of your capital to be allocated toward longer-term financial objectives rather than remaining in short-term liquid reserves.

By transferring income risk, you may be able to maintain your long-term investment strategy according to your risk tolerance.

That changes the conversation completely.

The question is no longer:

“Why am I paying for disability insurance?”

It becomes:

“What does disability insurance allow the rest of my money to do?”

Good financial planning doesn't just protect wealth.

It helps seek greater efficiency within your overall financial plan
